Rainbow Ridge Gardens is a family run farm located in Sioux County, Iowa, which is situated in very northwestern Iowa, bordering South Dakota to the west, and only 25 miles from the Minnesota border to the north. Sioux County has gently rolling hills, the most fertile of soils, and is intensively agricultural; with a huge production of both livestock and crops. Since 2001 we have been growing and selling fresh vegetables at farmers markets in Iowa, South Dakota, and Wyoming; and this year we will also be selling tomato, bell pepper, and hot pepper bedding plants; and also fresh lamb to our customers.
Our family consists of Daryl and Paula, and children David, Jacquelyn, Carolyn, and Eric. After years of faithfully helping us on the farm, David has now moved to Denver where he works as a biomedical technician in Denver, eastern Colorado and western Kansas. Jacquelyn is a cosmetologist and works nearby. Carolyn has just finished her second year of college and will be a junior at SDSU in Brookings where she is majoring in agricultural business with a minor in horticulture. Eric will graduate from high school May 19, and will spend a year working and trying to decide just what he would like to do. Paula works part time as a Registered Nurse in our local Sioux Center Hospital, and Daryl works at Demco Manufacturing in Boyden, Iowa, where they make car caddies, gravity flow wagons, farm sprayers, and much more.
Our family believes, “you are what you eat,” and we find it fulfilling to grow healthy food both for ourselves and our customers. We grow it, tend it, pick it, and sell it directly to our customers and you can be assured that when you buy from Rainbow Ridge Gardens you will get natural, safe, and above all, delicious fresh produce and the most tender corn-fed lamb. We are also adding bedding plants for sale in 2013 and we urge you to check out our websites lamb, produce, and bedding plant pages for more information.
Iowa farmland reigns supreme in its ability to grow the best sweet corn and the juiciest tomatoes. All of the vegetables we sell are raised right here on our farm; and we and our children grow, tend, pick, and sell our produce directly to our customers; with help from extended family and neighbors at harvest time. We use sheep and cattle manure to fertilize the land and when it is necessary to use herbicides to control our weeds, we use the bare minimum necessary to ensure a crop. Most of our vegetables have no added chemicals at all. You can be assured that all of our vegetables have been picked fresh, they are safe, and of highest quality. When you stop at our stand you will not find a lot of frills, just good tasty vegetables and fruits sold at competitive prices. To see some pictures of our produce follow the links above or click here.
