Where do the majority of odors come from inside swine confinements?
It's not what you might expect.

Many people think that the manure pit inside a swine confinement is the only main source of odor. This is not necessarily the case. Have you noticed that after a swine facility has been power-washed, it smells incredibly clean and fresh. The pit is still in the same condition as before yet there is a dramatic improvement in air quality. This is idea behind our Ozonaire System.

Ozone Solutions' Ozonaire System injects ozone into the air where it can oxidize the odors emanating from many sources. Sources that are contributors to odors are the following:

  • slats
  • gating
  • feeders
  • walls
  • other swine
  • All of these sources can gather feces and urine from swine and be a major contributor the poor air quality inside of confinements. Swine odors will eventually saturate themselves into the building components.

Many pit additives claim a significant reduction of odors with their use. However, the only odors they are capable of reducing are those emanating from the pit. How can pit additives reduce odors from the slats, walls and other swine? The answer is that they cannot reduce the odor inside swine confinements to significantly improve the living conditions.

Ever wonder why odors are stronger in the summer than in the winter? This is because the heat causes manure particles to evaporate more quickly into the air. Odors are only detected when part of the odor source becomes airborne. Once this occurs, humans and livestock can detect them. These odors are responsible for increased stress on livestock and reduced livestock performance.

There are two ways to reduce the odor inside swine confinements. One is to completely remove the source of the odor. However, this is not very practical. The second is to attack them when they evaporate from the source. Our Ozonaire System does just that!

Ozone is injected into the air of the confinement where it permeates every area of the building. Nothing goes untouched from this system. The Ozonaire System can oxidize odors emanating from any source.
